She moved to New York to attend Columbia University, then went on to get a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley in classical Indian poetry, with an emphasis in women, gender, and sexuality. She's a senior staff writer at the business magazine Fast Company, where she writes about fashion. Her work has been published in a wide range of publications, including The Atlantic, The Nation, Foreign Policy, Salon and The New Republic. She lives in Boston with her husband, daughter, and books.
