Gregory Scott Brown, M.D., is a board-certified psychiatrist and wellness advocate. He believes we can redefine mental health as a state of living with purpose, balance, contentment, and hope rather than as a topic we would prefer to avoid. Having open and honest conversations as well as sharing inspiring stories are ways we can dismantle stigma and normalize these discussions. Dr. Brown is founder and director of the Center for Green Psychiatry, an Austin-based outpatient group practice, and he is an affiliate faculty member at the University of Texas Dell Medical School. His clinical philosophy supports an integrative approach that utilizes a combination of conventional treatments (medication and psychotherapy) alongside other measures like mind-body medicine (meditation and yoga), physical activity, nutrition, and discussions on spirituality and purpose.Dr. Brown has published in academic journals and the popular press. His writing and commentary have been featured in: Current Psychiatry, Austin Fit Magazine, Mashable, Dr. Jane Greer's Doctor on Call, Well+Good, Medscape, and the Today Show. He also serves on the advisory board for Men's Health Magazine where he writes a monthly column and also co-hosts an Instagram Series called Friday Sessions with his friend and fellow psychiatrist, Dr. Drew Ramsey. ?Dr. Brown is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He completed a fellowship in integrative medicine at the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine, specialty training in general psychiatry at the University of Texas Dell Medical School, and received an M.D. from the McGovern Medical School in Houston. Dr. Brown is an alumni of Rice University, where he received a bachelors degree in anthropology, and Johns Hopkins University, where he completed a post-baccalaureate premedical program. Prior to his transition to medicine, Dr. Brown studied music at The Juilliard School in New York.Dr. Brown was awarded a SAMHSA Minority Fellowship by the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and in this capacity participated on the APA Council on Communications for two years.
