Prakash Patra began his career as a journalist in 1980 and has worked with National Herald, The Pioneer, Hindustan Times and The Telegraph in different capacities. He was Editor (States and New Projects) with Hindustan Times between1996 and 2007, and wrote a fortnightly column, 'Politically Correct'. He has been the secretary general of the Press Association of India and president of the Press Club of India.
