35 DAYS: HOW POLITICS IN MAHARASHTRA CHANGED FOREVER IN 2019
by JITENDRA DIXIT
`The political drama in Maharashtra was among the most watched news coverage on television in 2019. As a journalist I witnessed and reported on the whole fiasco which lasted for 35 days. It makes for a thrilling story with elements of shock, suspense, deceit and revenge. If what happened in front of the cameras shocked you then you must read this book to know all that happened behind the curtains.’ – Jitendra Dixit, Author “35 Days provides an insight not just into what happened between the announcement of election results and the formation of the government in Maharashtra, but into the very heart of the political ecosystem of the state and India too. I’d recommend this real-life political thriller to everyone who watched the events unfold and wondered what was really happening behind the scenes.” – Swati Chopra, Executive Editor, HarperCollins
About the book: A high voltage political drama unfolded over the thirty-five days between the declaration of the Maharashtra assembly election results in 2019 and the formation of the Shiv Sena-NCPCongress government in the state. The dramatic events that had the entire country glued to television screens culminated in the swearing in of Uddhav Thackeray as Chief Minister, and incidentally the first Thackeray to hold political office, on 28 November 2019.
This book is a blow-by-blow account of the events that took place during those thirty-five days that baffled even hardcore political pundits. It was a time when political parties made unpredictable moves, friends became enemies, enemies became friends, ideologies were rendered redundant and the greed for power took primacy over all else. The goings-on unmasked almost all parties and politicians of the state and changed Maharashtra’s politics forever.
About the author: Jitendra Dixit is West India Editor of ABP News. Based in Mumbai, he has been reporting on crime, conflict and politics for over twenty years. He earlier worked with Aaj Tak and Star News. As a crime journalist, he has reported widely on the Mumbai underworld. He covered the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks from ground zero for Star News and wrote a book about it, which was a bestseller in Hindi and Marathi. He was one of India’s representatives at a conference organized by the FBI to combat organized crime syndicates at New York City in 2011. In 2015, Jitendra won the Red Ink award in political category for his documentary on Kashmir Assembly Elections.
