This WORLD VEGAN DAY 2023
HarperCollins India is delighted to announce the forthcoming publication of
THE INDIAN VEGAN by Sonal Ved
ABOUT THE BOOK
Veganism is a trend that is here to stay. While its health and environment benefits are talked about enough, many are deterred by the perception of vegan recipes being complicated and the seeming challenges of procuring the ingredients required. But with
The Indian Vegan, your approach to and understanding of veganism is all set to change.
Sonal Ved has researched the length and breadth of Indian cuisine for years, only to conclude that when it comes to a vegan lifestyle, no other culinary tradition is as well-suited as the Indian one. From Ladakhi chutagi, Kerala’s ulli theeyal and Manipuri kelli chana to Rajasthani moong dal khilma, Bengal’s mocha’r ghonto, Garhwali kafuli and more, she presents recipes that open the doors to the diverse world of the country’s regional cuisine and fit neatly into daily life.
Along with easy-to-follow instructions, detailed ingredient lists and suggestions for vegan swaps, she provides tips to ensure that every dish is not only easy to make and nutritionally balanced, but also abides by the principles of sustainability.
As you flip through the pages of this book, you will uncover an inspiring blend of traditional Indian recipes and principles of a modern plant-based lifestyle. Whether you’re a seasoned cook or someone about to make the leap into veganism, The Indian Vegan is a must-have for your bookshelf.

Talking about the book Sonal Ved says ‘The Indian Vegan contains essential recipes that will come in handy if you are committing to a vegan lifestyle. It includes basics that are the foundations of veganism, such as how to make nut milks and vegan yoghurt at home. I’ve also shared many chutneys and house-made condiments so you don’t have to rely on store-bought ones. From small plates to main course, there is a wholesome mix of creations from my kitchen like the beetroot tikki with orange-zested almond-yogurt to classic ideas like lilva kachori and pudina panki. I’ve also added many intrinsically vegan recipes from Indian cuisine that take you from one state to another, like a coconut sundal from Tamil Nadu to a Sindhi bhee kebab to Maharashtrian kothimbir vadi and so on.’
Bushra Ahmed, Senior Commissioning Editor at HarperCollins India adds ‘The Indian Vegan is the book you need to do that reset and declutter your lifestyle and health. Sonal has curated amazing recipes from all over India that are healthy and will help you easily transition to a Vegan lifestyle. So pick this book up and jump on the bandwagon that many all over the world are hopping on and reclaim your wellness and health.’
