Terms & Conditions

  • Participating in the contest, ‘#StoriesConnectUs’ for HarperCollins Publishers India (hereinafter referred to as the (‘Contest’), you agree to have read, understood and accepted the following terms, conditions and guidelines (‘Terms’)
  • These Terms are applicable to and govern the Contest organized and conducted by HarperCollins Publishers India.
  • HarperCollins Publishers India reserves the right to modify these Terms without any prior notification. You are advised to regularly review these Terms. If you do not agree with any of the Terms and any amendments thereto, you must not participate in the Contest. Participation is strictly voluntary and optional.
  • Please read these rules (“Official Rules”) before entering the Contest. You agree that, by submitting an entry, you will be bound by these Official Rules and you acknowledge that you satisfy all Contest eligibility requirements.

 

Official Rules

  • You may enter ‘#WriteWithChitra’ beginning on 3rd April 2020, after Chapter 1 has been posted.
  • Your entry will be a continuation to Chapter 1, following which to every consequent chapter posted.
  • Only one entry per person per chapter is allowed. However, you can attempt all chapters.
  • Each entry has to be within the word limit of 500-1000 words.
  • All entries must be sent to this email ID: writetous@harpercollins.co.in with the subject: #StoriesConnectUs: Chapter (fill info) Entry by (name). Please include your social media handles for Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
  • Chapter 1 will be written by best selling author Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni.
  • There will be a total of 14 chapters crowd-sourced.
  • The last chapter, Chapter 16 will be written by a guest writer.
  • Every individual will have 48 hours from the time the previous chapter is posted to submit their entry for the following chapter.
  • After this 48-hour period, HarperCollins Publishers India will not receive any further entries for said chapter.
  • The chapter winners will be decided basis their entries by HarperCollins Publishers India.
  • Winning chapters will be published on the HarperCollins India website blog – https://harpercollins.co.in/blog/
  • The winner selection shall at all times be final and binding and no further discussion will be entertained.
  • The last chapter, book title and cover will be revealed at the time of publishing the book.
  • The complete novel will be published by 31 December 2020. HarperCollins Publishers India reserves the right to decide on the date and format of publication.

Prizes:

  • There are no cash or merchandise prizes for this Contest.
  • The gratification for the contest is the publishing of the winner chapter.
  • There are no cash or other prize alternatives available in whole or in part.

Odds of Winning:

  • Odds of winning depend on the quality of the eligible entry as determined by the Judges. Eligible entries are ones that satisfy the eligibility criteria outlined herein and follow the steps outlined in the ‘official rules section.
  • The Judges decision on selection of the Winners of the Contest shall be final and binding on all the Participants and shall not entertain any questions, enquiries on the manner of conduct of the Winners’ declaration and the Contest from any party whatsoever. These Terms shall be applicable to the Winners and their companions.

Eligibility:

  • The Contest is open only to Indian Citizens residing in India.
  • Employees, directors, and/or officers including immediate family members (spouses, domestic partners, parents, grandparents, siblings, children and grandchildren) of Amazon India, Flipkart India and HarperCollins Publishers India its subsidiaries, affiliated companies, distributors, advertising, fulfillment and promotion agencies and all other companies or entities associated with the Contest are not eligible to participate.

Promotions:

  • By entering the Contest, you consent to being placed on a mailing list for promotional and other materials for HarperCollins Publishers India.
  • Please note that we may be running similar contests at the same time as this Contest. By entering this Contest, you will not be eligible to receive any prize awarded in any other Contest unless you enter each Contest separately.
  • By participating, you agree to be part of any promotions that may be run with respecting to this contest. This will include but not be limited to social media posts and use of pictures. At no point will HarperCollins Publishers India divulge your personal information to Third Parties.

Additional Terms:
We may, to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law and in our sole discretion, change these rules or cancel the Contest at any time; or modify, terminate, or suspend the Contest should viruses, worms, bugs, unauthorized human intervention or other causes beyond our control corrupt or impair the administration, security, fairness or proper play of the Contest or submission of entries. We are not responsible for: (a) lost, misdirected, late, incomplete, or unintelligible entries or for inaccurate entry information, whether caused by you or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Contest, or by any technical or human error that may occur in the processing of entries; (b) any printing or typographical errors in any materials associated with the Contest; (c) any error in the operation or transmission, theft, destruction, unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries, or for technical, network, telephone, computer, hardware or software, malfunctions of any kind, or inaccurate transmission of, or failure to receive any entry information on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website; or (d) injury or damage to your or any other computer resulting from downloading any materials in connection with the Contest. We may, in our sole discretion, disqualify any individual found to be: (e) tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Contest or website; (f) acting in violation of these rules; or (g) acting in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person. If your entry is incomplete or if you use robotic, automatic, programmed or similar entry methods, your entry will be void. The authorized subscriber of the e-mail account used to enter the Contest at the actual time of entry will be deemed to be the participant and must comply with these rules in the event of a dispute as to entries submitted by multiple users having the same e-mail account. The authorized account subscriber is the natural person who is assigned an e-mail address by an Internet access provider, on-line service provider, or other organization responsible for assigning e-mail addresses for the domains associated with the submitted e-mail addresses. No greater than the number of Prizes stated in these Official Rules will be awarded. If any technical errors occur in the selection of potential Prize winners or if more Prizes are claimed than the number of Prizes being awarded as provided in these Official Rules, we may award the Prize by random drawing from among all eligible claimants. We may, at our sole and absolute discretion, change these rules or cancel the Contest at any time; or modify, terminate, or suspend the Contest.

 

Liability Release:
This Contest is being made purely on a “best effort” basis and participating in this Contest is voluntary. By participating in the Contest, you will be legally bound hereby, to release from liability, and hold harmless HarperCollins Publishers India, and any of its employees or agents representing or related to the company and its products. This release is for any and all liability for personal injuries (including death), property loss or damage during the travel and otherwise, and misuse of promotional Prize, in connection with any activity or directly or indirectly, by reason of the acceptance, possession, use or misuse of the Prize or participation in the Contest, even if caused or contributed to by our negligence. Once HarperCollins Publishers India has fulfilled the Prize distribution as per the Contest rules and regulations, no further liability may be held against its employees or agents. You further agree to abide by all Contest rules and regulations, as posted with the Contest rules and made available on the company website. Further, you agree to bear all the personal taxation that might arise out of the winnings from this Contest and shall not look to HarperCollins Publishers In HarperCollins Publishers India, and any of its employees or agents for payment of the same and/or any dispute arising from the same.

Privacy Notice:
All information submitted in connection with this Contest will be treated in accordance with these Official Rules and HarperCollins Publishers India’s Privacy Notice.

Compliance of Law:
The conduct of the Contest is governed by the applicable laws of the India and the courts at New Delhi shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of this Contest.
