4.0 out of 5 stars Great anthology, totally worth a read

All in all it's a great anthology, and totally worth a read!
As with all of them, there are always some stories I don't like so much, but in this one there was only one story I gave up on reading (a very good rate for me!)

And don't let the first story put you off! Even though it's quite good, the female character is totally secondary. I wondered why this story was the very first, and even why it was included! But then the others more than compensated, and I enjoyed the settings and plots.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blood is spilled, tears fall... Suspenseful Read with Action from several voices!

This book is a great collection with many surprises in the short stories inside it's cover. It will not take you long to see how one story shares an element with the first, and then another element with the one that follows that. Many times I finished a short story and find myself leaning back, catching my breath and in awe of the twists, both heartfelt and gruesome. There is action and tests, internal and external conflicts. Each writer having a unique voice for their fantasy and science fiction tellings. From the mother in brawl fights to pay for an escape from the scum to women who outwit their opponents. Many different ways to fight are presented here, not all of them win either. Blood is spilled, tears fall, and I promise any reader looking for a speculative suspense and action packed collection will find this a joy!

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok read

Some good, some left me totally cold, some were (for me) average, predictable, and boring...but enough to make the purchase price almost worth it...the title better and more fun than some of the stories...a small quibble: a boozy bar is named ”the hog pen”, and some lines later ”the hog prr” and yet later ”the hog pit”...silly proof reading....and a text does not become a feminist statement simply by exchanging a brawling superhero for a similarly brawling superheroine...some stories felt snipped from a larger text, with no internal structure or pace...it is hard to write a well-built short story...saki, maupassant and kipling are good models to emulate...but, all in all, a decent read...and a fun endeavor...

5.0 out of 5 stars Some stories I loved, some were more so-so for me

As with any anthology, there's a mix of writing styles. Some stories I loved, some were more so-so for me. But I loved the book and the concept of having all these stories of strong females. As for the review questions Amazon asks: I rated the writing style as good...some of it was great, one or two stories I found to be okay...so I went with the average. Yes there's violence...it's called "Fight Like a Girl"...so yeah, expect violence. There's some sexual content. "How is the story narrated"...well that depends on the story. There's a variety. I thought this was a great collection of stories of fierce women!
