HarperCollins India is delighted to announce the upcoming publication of
BRAHMAPUTRA – The Ahom Son Rises
by Vijayendra Prasad and Kulpreet Yadav
Rs 299 | 202pp
About the Book
AHOMS – THE LAND OF GLORY, BRAVERY, SACRIFICE AND PATRIOTISM.
Lachit Borphukan falls in love with Princess Padmini. But her father, Swargadeo Jayadhwaj Singha, the king of the Ahom kingdom, finds out and throws Lachit out of the capital, Jorhat.
A few days later, the Ahom capital is attacked by Aurangzeb’s forces. The king signs a truce treaty, thereby ceding part control of his kingdom to the Mughals. For Lachit and his best friend, Prince Chakradhwaj, the terms of the treaty are humiliating. Within days their troubles multiply as a prince from a kingdom loyal to the Ahoms misleads other minor kingdoms and attacks Jorhat. As Lachit and Prince Chakradhwaj defend the capital, this battle has the power to change the future of the Ahom kingdom forever.
Can Lachit, Prince Chakradhwaj and Princess Padmini restore the honour of the Ahoms by defeating the rebels and breaking free from the Mughal stranglehold?

Talking about the book, Kulpreet Yadav says ‘Inspired by true events, “Brahmaputra – The Ahom Son Rises” (book 1) is an attempt to bring to light the lesser known story of the honour, the bravery and sacrifice of Lachit Borphukan & lakhs of Ahoms who fought till the last drop of blood in their bodies to defend their motherland. I feel blessed that legendary screenwriter Vijayendra Prasad ji trusted me to be the co-author of his first book’
Poulomi Chatterjee, Executive Publisher at HarperCollins adds ‘India’s vast history is rich with stories of sacrifice, courage and heroism that inspire us and leave us moved and thrilled at once – and many among these have unfortunately remained less widely known than they should be. The story of Lachit Borphukan is one of them – that of a brave-heart who takes it upon himself to defend the honour of his people and the land of Ahom against merciless invaders, in the face of grave disloyalty. Vijayendra Prasad has the reputation of being a formidable storyteller and holding audiences in thrall with runaway hits like RRR and Bajrangi Bhaijan, and we’re delighted that together with Kulpreet Yadav he has now brought his craft to print on paper – for a story that all Indians should know and remember.’
