HarperCollins India acquires the legendary Ravi Shastri’s long-awaited cricket memoir

shabnam.srivastava@harpercollins.co.in | 10 January 2021

On 10 January 1985, Ravi Shastri dazzled fans across the globe with the remarkable feat of hitting six sixes in one over. Today marks another master stroke from the legendary all-rounder.

HarperCollins India is delighted to announce the acquisition of Ravi Shastri’s long-awaited memoir on his life in cricket, to be published in summer 2021. Sharing never-before revealed anecdotes and insights, Shastri takes a walk down memory lane, offering a rare look at the illustrious men in white from across the globe who have helped shape his career in cricket and beyond.

Ravi Shastri says, ‘I’ve had the privilege to play against, watch as well as commentate and now coach, some of the greatest cricketers to ever walk out on the pitch. I’m very pleased to be sharing my stories, a glimpse into my exciting life involved with cricket, in this book published by HarperCollins India.’

Sonal Nerurkar, Senior Commissioning Editor, HarperCollins India, says, ‘From Champion of Champions to one of the world’s top cricket commentators to India’s head coach, Ravi Shastri has an incomparable perspective when it comes to the game of cricket. I’m honoured that he chose to publish these stories with us.’

Diya Kar, Publisher, HarperCollins India, says, ‘We couldn’t be more delighted to be publishing Ravi Shastri’s first book. His deep love for the game, his intimate accounts of the cricketers he’s played with, and his sharp observations, make this slice of life a treasure.’

About the book

Ravi Shastri has stayed in the public eye since he first made his Test cricket debut over four decades ago.
On the field, Shastri’s played against and partnered legendary talents like Vivian Richards, Ian Botham, Sunil Gavaskar, Ricky Ponting, Muttiah Muralitharan, Imran Khan and Sachin Tendulkar to name a few. From his vantage point in the commentator’s box, and as Team India coach, he’s watched the talents of Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli blossom.
Who is the India former Indian captain that didn’t do full justice to his talent? Or the bruising bowler who went on to become a best friend? We know what he said when Yuvraj Singh matched his record of six sixes, but how did he really feel about Yuvi laying claim to his title? What did he want to tell MS Dhoni, but didn’t, when he announced his decision to retire? How does he separate his special bond with Virat Kohli and his role as coach?

One of the greatest ODI players in the world, Shastri looks back on the extraordinary talent that he’s encountered over the course of his career in his first book, co-written by sports journalist Ayaz Memon and featuring illustrations by Shiva Rao.
