About the book

From the iconic history of India Coffee House to the democratic and inclusive SEWA and Uralungal Labour Cooperative; from the homegrown and organic CAMPCO to the hardworking Kiwi Growers Cooperative Society of Arunachal; from the legendary rise of Amul, IFFCO and Krishak Bharati Cooperative to the lesser-known ethical and artistic Looms of Ladakh; from the innovative Pune Swach Cooperative of Maharashtra to the creative AYCOOPS of Kerala, the rich tapestry of cooperative societies in India is diverse and spread throughout the rural and urban landscape.

Collective Prosperity: The Legacy of Indian Cooperatives shares inspiring stories of 75 Indian cooperative societies that have grown over the 75 years of India’s independence. This volume is a maiden effort in storyboarding and portraying a diverse range of Indian cooperatives, ranging from local enterprises to global giants, as social instruments of development. It is an attempt to remind us of the power of collective action for co-creating economic opportunities and co-evolving growth and prosperity.
