Michael A Cusumano

Michael A. Cusumano is the Sloan Management Review Distinguished Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Sloan School of Management and Founding Director of the Tokyo Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center at Tokyo University of Science. He serves on several company boards and is the author or co-author of over 130 articles and thirteen books, including the classic Microsoft Secrets (translated into 14 languages) and Competing on Internet Time (with David Yoffie, named a top 10 book of 1998 by Business Week). Other books include Platform Leadership (with Annabelle Gawer), The Business of Software, Staying Power (named a top business book of 2011 by Strategy + Business magazine) and Strategy Rules: Five Timeless Lessons from Bill Gates, Andy Grove and Steve Jobs (with David Yoffie, translated into 18 languages). He lives in Groton, Massachusetts. Annabelle Gawer is Chaired Professor of Digital Economy at the University of Surrey and Director of the Surrey Center for the Digital Economy. She is the co-author of Platform Leadership (with Michael Cusumano) and editor of Platform, Markets and Innovation, as well as numerous articles in top international journals. Her seminal research on platforms explains how firms’ strategy, innovation and competition interact to shape platform ecosystems in the digital economy and has been featured in the New York Times, London Times, Financial Times, The Economist and the Wall Street Journal. Professor Gawer is a leading voice in advancing research, managerial practice and European policy. She advises the European Commission, the UK Parliament House of Lords and the OECD on ICT research priorities in Europe and on the regulation of online platforms. She lives in London, UK. David B. Yoffie is the Max and Doris Starr Professor of International Business Administration at Harvard Business School and former Senior Associate Dean for Executive Education. He first met Andy Grove in 1987 and was one of Intel’s longest serving board members, from 1989 to 2018. He continues to serve on several high tech company boards. Yoffie has written more than 200 case studies on technology and business strategy, which have sold more than four million copies. He is the author or co-author of nine books, including Judo Strategy as well as the bestselling Competing on Internet Time and Strategy Rules: Five Timeless Lessons from Bill Gates, Andy Grove and Steve Jobs, both written with Michael Cusumano. He has also written extensively for the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and the Harvard Business Review. He lives in Newton, Massachusetts.
